As Bihar struggles with devastation caused by flood and havoc wreaked by the Covid-19 pandemic at the same time, the state’s political leaders are busy attacking each other. Both the RJD and the JDU are locked in a vitriolic attack on each other. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a scathing campaign against Nitish Kumar earlier on Monday through his tweet where he accused the Bihar CM of having robbed the people of their mandate. Tejashwi added in his tweet that it was a big fraud committed on 12 crore people of the state and “now after 130 days of confinement at home the CM should come out to celebrate.”

The tweet generated sharp criticism from the ruling JDU in the state. The minister for IPRD, Neeraj Kumar, said that Tejashwi was himself embroiled in corruption and has no right to question the ruling government. He said that the JDU could not compromise on the issue of corruptionfree government and since there were serious charges of corruption on Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav so they chose to break ties with the Mahagathbandhan and join hands with the BJP. He added that as compared to the votes polled for the party in 2015 when the JDU had contested elections with the RJD there was a 39% increase in the vote-share of the JDU in 2019 elections which is a proof of the fact that the people endorsed the decision of the JDU.

With elections being announced for later this year, Tejashwi has become very critical of the ruling government and has continuously attacked the government for its failure to curb the cases of Covid-19 in the state. He also targeted the Nitish Kumar government for failing to handle the flood situation in Bihar. Mritunjay Tiwari, RJD spokesperson, talking to The Daily Guardian, said: “Neeraj Kumar should first answer why they committed a robbery on the mandate of the people? Why are they failing miserably in the state on all fronts be it handling Corona crisis or the flood situation in the state. They are trying to deflect the whole issue but the people will teach them a lesson in the coming elections.”
