The father of the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor, who was tragically raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata while on duty, shared heartfelt insights into his daughter’s ambitions and dedication to her medical career.

As reported by India Today, the young doctor had documented her dreams in her personal diary, with her final entry expressing her desire to excel academically, aiming to become a gold medallist in her course and top the MD exams.

Her father spoke of her tireless commitment to her studies, noting that she would often spend 10 to 12 hours each day immersed in her books. “She worked very hard,” he told India Today, adding that her dreams have now been cruelly shattered.

He praised his daughter’s determination, highlighting how she had “fought a lot to reach her goal of becoming a doctor.” He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by the family to support her education and expressed his gratitude for the nationwide support they have received since the tragedy. “I won’t get my daughter back, but all I can do is have courage and be hopeful. The show of support from around the country is giving us a lot of courage to fight for justice,” he said.

However, the father expressed his dissatisfaction with the investigation, despite it being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He demands the death penalty for those responsible for his daughter’s brutal murder, stating, “The sooner they are punished, the better. We will get some solace, though nothing can replace our loss.”

On August 9, the semi-naked body of the doctor was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, has been arrested in connection with the heinous crime. The investigation, which was initially managed by the Kolkata Police, has since been transferred to the CBI following an order from the Calcutta High Court.

The autopsy report revealed the horrific extent of the brutality the young doctor endured, showing multiple penetrations and injuries to various parts of her body. It detailed external injuries to her lower and upper lips, nose, cheeks, and lower jaw, as well as injuries to the temporal bone of her skull and blood coagulation on its frontal portion.
