The Uttar Pradesh State Law Commission is preparing to hand over the draft population control law to the state government next month. Speaking to The Daily Guardian, Commission Chairman Justice Aditya Nath Mittal said that it has received more than 8,500 suggestions till the due date 19 July. Now, after considering these suggestions, the draft will be finalised and next month, the draft population control law will be hand over to the state government.

The draft bill was uploaded on the commission’s website. Suggestions and objections were sought on the draft till July 19. Most of the suggestions have been received by the Commission on e-mail, he added.

A few days ago, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) working president Alok Kumar had also questioned the proposed draft of the Law Commission. He said that the point of giving more benefits to couples having only one child should be reconsidered. On 10 July speaking to The Daily Guardian, Justice A.N. Mittal had said: “The Law Commission is making a law on population; the law is such that the person who adopts the population policy, many types of incentives will be given, in which if that person is in a government job, then two additional increments will be given. In his pension scheme, the state government will give 3% more amount. That person will get the benefit of all the welfare schemes of the state government. That person will get priority on purchasing the plots of the authority. Apart from this, free medical facility will also be available. He will get all these facilities.”
