Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s aim of transforming Ayodhya into a solar metropolis is being realized with the installation of 470 solar street lights over a 10.2 kilometer stretch between Guptar Ghat and Nirmali Kund. This extraordinary performance is poised to cement Ayodhya’s place in the Guinness Book of World Records, adding to the city’s previous record for burning the most earthen lamps during Deepotsav.

Under the guidance of CM Yogi, the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) has achieved nearly 70 percent completion of the installation work. The remaining 160 solar streetlights are scheduled to be in place before January 22, marking a significant milestone.

Praveen Nath Pandey, the project officer of UPNEDA (Ayodhya), highlighted that Ayodhya is on track to establish a world record with the installation of 470 solar street lights in the designated 10.2 km area. Currently, 310 solar lights illuminate the stretch from Lakshman Ghat to Guptar Ghat, with the ongoing installation of an additional 160 solar-powered street lights between Guptar Ghat and Nirmali Kund, covering a distance of 1.85 km. All the solar-powered street lights are LED-based, operating at 4.4 watts, and equipped with smart technology, promising an illuminated and energy-efficient environment.

The world record the state government aims to surpass is currently held by Malham, Saudi Arabia, where 468 solar-powered lights were installed over 9.7 km in 2021. Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi government is determined to break this record by installing 470 solar-powered lights across a 10.2 km expanse in Ayodhya.

Ayodhya’s previous Guinness World Record achievement during Diwali in 2023, with 25,000 volunteers lighting 22.23 lakh lamps at the ghats of Sarayu, further solidifies the city’s commitment to embracing sustainable and innovative practices. The grand event on January 22, coinciding with the adornment of Lord Ram’s idol at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple, is expected to set a new record in the Guinness Book of World Records, showcasing Ayodhya’s dedication to both tradition and progressive environmental initiatives. Ongoing discussions between local administration, UPNEDA officials, and representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records indicate a strong commitment to making this vision a reality.
