Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Union Minister of Law and Justice, will introduce the Repealing and Amending Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha today for consideration and passage in order to repeal some laws and amend another law on Thursday. The Lok Sabha earlier approved the Bill on July 28.

The Bill aims to repeal 65 laws that are no longer in use or that other laws have rendered unnecessary. Additionally, it fixes a small drafting error in the 2011 Factoring Regulation Act. There are 24 laws that would be repealed, according to the Bill’s First Schedule. Two of these date back to before 1947, and 16 of them are amending Acts. 41 Appropriation Acts are listed in the Second Schedule of the Bill as being repealed. Among them are 18 Acts of Appropriation for the Railways. These Acts were passed between 2013 and 2017.

Meghwal will also introduce the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha in order to regulate the appointment, conditions of service, and term of office of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners, as well as the process for the Election Commission to conduct business.
