Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the BJP was not only the largest political party in the world but also one with the highest credibility. He inaugurated the membership drive of the BJP on Saturday. Drawing upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s view, he described the “crisis of credibility” that has afflicted politics. Singh said after that Modi always worked on one thing: the implementation of promises given by the party. “Nobody can deny the fact that because of the differences between words and actions of politicians, people’s faith in India’s politics and politicians has gone down. The crisis of credibility that rose because of it was accepted as a challenge by PM Narendra Modi.”

Singh praised the Modi emphasis to deliver on promises and said, “We should be proud that we are not just the members of the biggest political party in the world, but the party which is most credible.”

In his address, PM Modi described the membership drive of BJP as more than a routine exercise. He linked this to bigger aims, including the introduction of 33 percent reservation for women in legislatures and Parliament. Modi said, “If this 33 percent reservation for women is to be introduced during this period of time, then in my membership drive, can we include all those people who can help my party ensure that the maximum number of women are elected as MLAs and MPs, thus making this vital decision a success?

He went on to underline the ideological and emotional importance of the drive thus: “This very membership drive isn’t just a ritual. It’s an expansion of our family. It isn’t a game of numbers. It doesn’t matter what numbers we achieve. This membership drive is an ideological and emotional movement.”

It was during the ‘Sanghatan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024’ that PM Modi got his BJP membership renewal receipt from party president JP Nadda. Modi recalled how the party worked toward bringing in a new political culture from the days of Bharatiya Jana Sangh to the times of the present.

These activities shall comprise a two-stage membership drive: September 2-September 25 and October 1-October 15, each to achieve specific targets in terms of total country coverage.
