It is well-known that Superstar Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan are good friends and have a lot of respect for each other. They were seen on screen together in the 1991 Hindi film, Hum, and now, after 33 years, they are coming together for a Tamil film, ‘Thalaivar 170.’ ‘Thalaivar 170’ is Rajinikanth’s 170th film and has not been given an official title as of yet.
Making the announcement himself, Rajinikanth posted on X (formerly Twitter), “After 33 years, I am working again with my mentor, the phenomenon, Shri Amitabh Bachchan in the upcoming Lyca’s “Thalaivar 170” directed by T.J Gnanavel. My heart is thumping with joy!”
Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog early Wednesday morning, “A new project has started today, the one with Rajnikant ji… and getting together on a professional platform has been a long-anticipated event for years… (sic).”
Big B also wrote, “His most down-to-earth living and nature… his exceptional talent and his legendary presence among the greats of cinema… and not even going into the stratospheric popularity that he has enjoyed for decades… and the love and affection he has shown toward my family and me.”
Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan also acted together in the Hindi films, Andhaa Kaanoon (1983) and Geraftaar (1985).
Director T J Gnanavel is the director of the film ‘Jai Bhim’, which received an overwhelming response from the audience and celebrities across India. ‘Thalaivar 170’ is being produced by Lyca Productions and the movie will also feature Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Dushara Vijayan and Manju Warrier. The movie is set for release
in 2024.
