Boxing Federation of India vice president Rajesh Bhandari has been named as the Chef de Mission of the Indian contingent for the upcoming Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games to be held from July 28-August 8.

Bhandari who is also the secretary of Himachal Pradesh was earlier chosen as one of the general managers of the contingent and has now been elevated due to Onkar Singh’s unavailability due to health reasons, who was the first choice for the Chef de role.

He will be assisted by Maninder Singh, Prashant Kushwaha and Anil Dhupar as the general manager of the squad, while Bibhu Nayak has been chosen as the doctor of the contingent.

“We have chosen Rajesh Bhandari as the chef de mission as Onkar Singh ji excused himself from the role due to health issues,” Rajeev Mehta, general secretary of Indian Olympic Association said on the sidelines of the official kit launch ceremony of the Indian contingent for CWG. It was also announced during the event that the total number of athletes for the quadrennial event stands at 215 with hockey and athletics fielding the most with 36 entries.

It was also announced that the medal winners in Birmingham will be rewarded with a cash prize by the IOA. The gold medallists will get richer by 20 lakhs, while silver and bronze medallists will be given 10 lakh and 7.5 lakh respectively.
