A group of men, including a family priest, allegedly gang-raped a 25-year-old Dalit woman in Ajmer, Rajasthan. Sanjay Sharma, the priest who used to offer prayers for her family, is said to have also recorded a video of the act and confined her for a number of days, the police officials said on Sunday.

The victim, in her complaint, has alleged that Sharma had first raped her when she was alone at her home, and recorded a video of her.

The victim, a mother of two, also claims that the accused held her captive while she was repeatedly raped over the course of a month. According to Ajmer North DSP Chhavi Sharma, he then raped her once more after using the video to extort money from her.

The accused gave the victim sedatives, and she is unable to say how many persons were engaged in the conduct,” the DSP added.

“The priest even allegedly threatened to kill the woman’s husband and children. He also asserted that he would make the video viral”, the police officials said.

According to the woman’s statement, the accused has been holding her against her will for the last three days and has repeatedly sexually assaulted her. Her husband reported her missing when she didn’t come home, and on September 27, the accused left her off outside a police station.

On the strength of a complaint, a FIR was filed on October 7. No arrest has been made of the accused.

The victim has undergone a medical examination, according to the police.
