Actor Shilpa Shetty’s statement has been recorded by the Mumbai Police in a case of selling pornographic films allegedly linked to her husband and businessman Raj Kundra. Raj Kundra was sent to the police custody till July 27 earlier in the day following his arrest in a case related to the alleged creation of pornographic films.

The Mumbai Crime Branch also wants to probe bank accounts of Kundra’s wife and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. They want to check if the financial proceeds from the app subscription, were then parked into Shilpa Shetty’s accounts or not. The crime branch team had reached Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Friday.

On Friday, Kundra and his business associate Ryan Thorpe were produced before the Magistrate Court where their police custody was extended till 27th July. While seeking extension of the custody Mumbai Police submitted that they have seized laptop of Raj where 51 Adult videos were found.

“Raj Kundra was the partner of Kernin. They made a plan B (Bolly Fame) after they received a Google mail to discontinue the app. There are videos which were used, we need to verify with these people. Also after Google, iOS and others removed Hotshot app from their app platforms so the accused activated their plan B, and launched another app BOLLYFAME. We want to retrieve Ryan’s 4 Email accounts made for Hotshots. We have recorded statement of the accountant and IT Developer of their company and they have told us that monthly expenses of their office were 4 thoussnd to 10 thousand pounds” police officials said.

Mumbai police property cell also submitted in the court, “We suspect that amount earned from the pornographic materials were used for betting. Huge transactions from Raj Kundra’s Yes Bank account to account in United Bank of Africa were made.”

When Raj Kundra was taken out of court, The Daily Guardian sought his comment but he declined to speak.

Kundra has denied any wrongdoing. His lawyer Abad Ponda had objected to classifying content as pornography in the case, pointing out a technicality in the Information Technology Act when read with the Indian Penal Code.

“Police is following what web series are doing these days—vulgar content. But that’s not really classified as porn. Nothing in this remand shows that two people actually indulged in act of intercourse. If it’s not actual intercourse, it’s not classified as porn,” Advocate Ponda told the court.

Meanwhile actress Shilpa Shetty took to her Instagram and urged her followers to not let her film Hungama 2 suffer due to her husband’s alleged involvement in the case.
