On Monday, Kashmir received the season’s first snowfall and it continued on Tuesday, along with incessant rainfall, blocking more local roads in various villages while all the highways have been closed due to inclement weather.

As per reports, the wet spell will remain till Wednesday afternoon. According to MeT office of Srinagar, Leh and Kargil along with Drass have either cloudy sky while some areas have witnessed moderate snow and rains.

The J&K Disaster Management department on Tuesday issued a fresh avalanche warning in all the higher reaches of North Kashmir and has asked people not to venture out from their homes.

Meanwhile traffic authorities in Srinagar said on Tuesday afternoon that they have cleared landslides in Ramban sector on the Srinagar-Jammu highway and will allow hundreds of vehicles which got stranded due to closure of highway to proceed from Jammu to Srinagar.

Reports said that the highway was still vulnerable to fresh landslides due to the continued rainfall in many sectors of the Srinagar-Jammu highway. Alternate highway of Shopian and Poonch—known as Mughal Road—is closed due to heavy snowfall in Shopian and adjacent areas.

Similarly, the Srinagar-Leh highway is closed while authorities have pressed men and machinery into service to clear the road for the traffic.
