With incessant rainfall all through Monday night, people in several parts of Mumbai on Tuesday woke up to severe water-logging. With heavy rainfall likely to continue, the weather department has called for red alert on Wednesday.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai city received 140.5mm rain from 8 am on 3 August to 3 am on 4 August. The Eastern and Western Suburbs recorded 84.77mm and 79.27mm of rainfall respectively. The Maharashtra government announced a holiday for all its offices in Mumbai city and suburbs on Tuesday in view of the heavy rainfall in the metropolis and neighbouring areas.

 As for the casualties, two persons was reportedly dead and one missing on Tuesday morning, after the floors of their rooms collapsed and they fell into the sewage channel at the back of the building.

While BMC has appealed to residents to stay at home and urged commercial establishments, except those providing essential services, to remain closed on Tuesday as heavy rains are likely to continue for next 48 hours. The Bombay High Court also adjourned virtual hearings after heavy rainfall in Mumbai Transport services on the main and harbour lines of Vadala and Parel remain suspended.
