The Ministry of Railways has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for those with serious injuries, and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries following the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express. Additionally, a high-level inquiry, alongside the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) investigation, has been ordered into the accident.

The derailment, which occurred near Gonda station between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations at 2:37 pm, resulted in two fatalities and injured 20 others. Four to five coaches of the train derailed. Following the incident, medical teams and senior officials from the Lucknow division of North Eastern Railway (NER) promptly reached the scene to commence rescue operations.

Pankaj Singh, CPRO of NER, confirmed the dispatch of medical vans and rescue teams to the site. Helpline numbers have been established for assistance, with details shared for Lucknow and Gonda. The Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner reported that NDRF teams from Lucknow and Balrampur, along with additional ambulances, have been mobilized for relief operations.
