Raid at Burail medicos leads to seizure of habit-forming drugs

Under the guidance of the Worthy Adviser to the Administrator and the Health Secretary, and following the directions of the Director Health Services-cum-Drugs Controller, U.T Chandigarh, a joint team, including Tajinder Singh and Mr. Amit Lakhanpal, Drugs Inspectors of Chandigarh Administration, conducted a raid at M/s Burail Medicos (formerly Singh Medicos) in Ekta Market, Burail, Sector 45, Chandigarh, around 8:30 PM on January 2, 2023.

During the search, the team discovered seven types of habit-forming drugs, including 3334 capsules and 630 tablets of Tramadol, Tepantadol, and Pregabalin – 300mg. The seized drugs, valued at approximately Rs. 90,000/- on MRP, will be presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chandigarh. The team noted that the firm failed to maintain purchase and sale records, and no mandatory Schedule H1 register was found.

The raid concluded at 10:30 PM, and a show-cause notice regarding the discrepancies and violations of the Drugs and Cosmetic Act, 1940, has been served to the Chemist Shop by the Drugs Controller-cum-Licensing Authority. The statement emphasizes that such activities will persist in the future, and a warning is issued to all concerned parties against engaging in the unethical sale, stock, or supply of drugs liable to be misused. Strict action will be taken against violators of the Drugs and Cosmetic Act/Rules.
