In a rally held in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, on Monday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi delivered a scathing critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s financial policies, suggesting they disproportionately favor a select few industrialists while burdening ordinary citizens.
Allegations of Economic Disparity
Gandhi highlighted the lavish wedding of Anant Ambani, son of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, as an example of the extravagant spending permitted under Modi’s economic structure. “Have you seen Ambani’s wedding? He spent crores on it. Whose money is this? It is your money,” he asserted.
He lamented that while the wealthy can afford extravagant celebrations, ordinary citizens, particularly farmers, struggle under the weight of debt. “You take bank loans to marry your children, but Narendra Modi has created a system that allows a select 25 people to spend lavishly on weddings, while a farmer can only drown in debt for his child’s wedding. If this isn’t an attack on the Constitution, what is?” he questioned.
Criticism of the Agniveer Scheme
Rahul Gandhi also took aim at the BJP government’s Agniveer scheme, which he claims undermines the benefits provided to the families of martyred soldiers. “Do you know what the Agniveer scheme is? It’s a method to deprive the pension, canteen access, and martyr status from our Indian soldiers,” he declared. He accused the government of privatizing defense services and transferring the defense budget to private companies like Adani Defence.
The Congress party has repeatedly stated that it intends to abolish the Agniveer scheme if it returns to power.
Promises for the Future
In Sonipat, Gandhi promised financial relief for women in Haryana, vowing to provide ₹2,000 monthly to assist families. He criticized Modi’s claims regarding the price of gas cylinders, which he alleged had risen from ₹400 to ₹1,200, contrary to the Prime Minister’s assertions. “When our government is formed, you will pay ₹500 for a gas cylinder, saving ₹700 that will go into your bank accounts,” he promised.
Additionally, he pledged to ensure Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers in Haryana, aiming to alleviate their financial burdens.
Gandhi’s remarks at the rally are part of the Congress party’s broader strategy to connect with the electorate ahead of upcoming elections, focusing on economic issues and social welfare.
