On Thursday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the government, stating that India lacks democracy and alleging that the country’s democratic image is a falsehood. He accused the BJP of severely damaging democracy by freezing the accounts of the main opposition party. Gandhi described this as a deliberate attempt to hinder the Congress’ election efforts, emphasizing the significant impact on democracy.

Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, he highlighted that all Congress bank accounts were frozen, hampering campaign activities and support for party workers and candidates. Gandhi emphasized the detrimental effect on the party’s ability to contest elections, calling it an attack on democracy. Despite institutions like the Election Commission, Gandhi noted their silence on the matter.

Earlier, the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal dismissed the Congress Party’s plea against the Income Tax Department’s actions, prompting Gandhi to reiterate his stance against divisive forces. The press conference, attended by prominent Congress figures, including Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, condemned the ruling BJP’s actions regarding the frozen bank accounts.
