The appointment of MP Raghav Chadha as chairman of the advisory committee by the Punjab government got challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday. A hearing on the petition filed in the High Court could not be possible this week.

Filing the petition, Advocate Jagmohan Bhatti said that the appointment of Raghav Chadha is not legitimate. Bhatti said that the presented notification, which has appointed Raghav Chadha as the chairman, is not a notification but a letter. He said that the Chief Minister does not have the power or right to make such an appointment, adding this type of authority is only with the Punjab Governor.

Describing the appointment as illegal, an appeal has been made to the High Court to quash it. Bhatti further said the appointment of Raghav Chadha was in violation of Article 309 of the Constitution. The opposition has also targeted the Bhagwant Mann government after the appointment of Raghav Chadha as the chairman of the new advisory committee of the Punjab government. The opposition says that Raghav is the new Chief Minister of Punjab and will advise the government on issues of public interest through the advisory committee.

Bhagwant Mann has constituted the advisory committee after meeting various departments. The main job of this committee will be to advise the government. According to the terms and conditions fixed during the formation of the committee, no salary and allowances will be given to the chairman and other members of the committee. Regarding the formation of the committee, the Punjab government has argued that the administrative work of the government will be accelerated through this committee. This committee will look after the work of the government regarding the decisions related to the Public Interest. If needed, it will also recommend improvements.
