In the spirit of Republic Day celebrations, the Enactus team of Panjab University took the lead in organising an impactful workshop on Financial Literacy and Menstrual Health & Hygiene for underprivileged women in Nayagaon.
The collaboration with Developing Indigenous Resources-India (DIR-India), Versatile Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., and Corporate Sustainability Council, Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CSC WICCI), Chandigarh aimed at community empowerment, bridging gaps in financial understanding, and raising awareness about healthcare, said Prof. Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor, Enactus and State Vice President of CSC WICCI, Chandigarh.
The workshop featured distinguished speakers, Prof. Monika Aggarwal, Director, University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), P.U., and Dr. Asha Katoch, CEO, DIR-India, who delivered insights into financial literacy and menstrual health, respectively, shared Aditi Prakash, Vice President.
Prof. Monika Aggarwal emphasised the importance of informed financial decision-making, providing practical insights into managing finances wisely and understanding government policies. Dr. Asha Katoch addressed menstrual health and hygiene, guiding participants on the safe use of eco-friendly cloth-based sanitary napkins. She highlighted the role of cloth pads in preventing vaginal infections and rashes due to unhygienic practices during menstruation.
More than 100 underprivileged women from the slums of Adarsh Nagar & Safeda Nagar, Nayagaon, along with DIR-India staff, actively participated in the event. Reusable cloth-based sanitary napkins, developed under the CSR projects Amodini of Versatile Group, Ludhiana, and Uday project of Enactus, were distributed to menstruating women and girls, sponsored by an alumnus of the 1976 batch of Dr. SSB University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology, P.U., conveyed Mahi, Project Director of Enactus team. Refreshments were served to participants after the workshop. Aarzoo Dhiman, Vice President of the Enactus team, expressed satisfaction in witnessing the community’s active participation and eagerness to learn. She emphasized that financial literacy is a tool for empowerment, and healthcare knowledge is essential for overall well-being.
The workshop concluded with participants expressing gratitude for the valuable information received. Shubham Dhiman, President of the Enactus team, reflected on Republic Day as a time to ponder our responsibilities in building a strong and empowered nation. He highlighted the team’s contribution to the broader goal of inclusive and sustainable development through workshops like these.
