Children often display innocence rather than a deep understanding of real-life references and context. This innocence sometimes leads them to believe that mythical creatures, superheroes, and other imaginary beings are real. In an undated video, a child in a mall points to a man and refers to him as “Jesus.” The child’s caretakers clarify that the man is not Jesus, while the stranger walks away amused.

The person recording the video laughs in the background. The video’s location and date are unclear. The child likely mistook the man, with long hair and fair skin, as Jesus Christ due to the stereotypical depiction of Christ.

Many people commented on the video, recalling similar instances with their kids mistaking people for mythical figures. One user wrote, “Reminds me of my son. Every old dude with a white beard was Santa.”

Another person shared, “There is a guy in my office who looks literally like Jesus. One day when I saw him smoking, it was like Jesus, you can’t smoke.”

Not all instances of kids mistaking real people for mythical figures are funny; some can be embarrassing for parents. One user recalled an incident where their brother mistook a person with achondroplasia as an Oompa Loompa.

Another shared, “My son once mistook a Hispanic man for George Lopez.” These anecdotes highlight the innocence and occasional awkwardness of children’s perceptions.
