The Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Wednesday said that the Punjabi players of Indian hockey team which won bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics, would be given jobs as per their choice for which the Sports Department has been directed to bring agenda in the next Cabinet.
The Chief Minister also offered them to join on the post of PCS, DSP or in the Sports Department as per their qualifications.
The Chief Minister during the second Cabinet meeting here announced to construct the stadiums in the name of each player of Indian Hockey team, which made every countryman especially the Punjabis proud for winning medal after 41 years during Tokyo Olympics. He said this move would be instrumental in inspiring the budding players.
Pointing out further, the Chief Minister said that the hockey team has brought laurels not only to Punjab but the entire country and it is a matter of sheer honour and pride that 11 players including Captain Manpreet Singh belonged to the State. He exhorted the players to continue playing along with their jobs thus staying connected with the game so as to train the upcoming players.
Earlier, Sports, Youth Services and Education Minister Pargat Singh welcomed all the players and termed this rare achievement as a result of hard work of 15 long years adding he said it would be a matter of great satisfaction in case these players join Sports Department in order to make use of their strength and experiences to boost its activities.
The Indian Hockey Captain Manpreet Singh and Defender Rupinder Pal Singh speaking on behalf of all the players expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister. On the occasion, other players Harmanpreet Singh, Gurjant Singh, Shamsher Singh, Hardik Singh, Simranjit Singh and Dilpreet Singh were also present.
