The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has registered another corruption case under its commitment to address corruption in the state. The case involves allegations of accepting a bribe of 45 lakh rupees against Vishal Sharma, the accountant of Amritsar Improvement Trust (A.I.T.).
The spokesperson revealed today that an FIR (First Information Report) was filed against the said employee under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act on January 31, 2024, by the Vigilance Bureau at Amritsar Range Police Station. The case was initiated based on an online complaint filed by Major Singh, a resident of Sultanwind village in Amritsar.
The complainant had submitted evidence, including audio-visual material, on the Chief Minister’s anti-corruption action line. After an investigation, the Vigilance Bureau in Amritsar Range found the allegations in the complaint to be valid, leading to the registration of the case against the accused employee. The spokesperson mentioned that further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
It is noteworthy that the A.I.T. official is currently in judicial custody for his involvement in another bribery case, where he was demanding and accepting an 8 lakh rupees bribe. He is held in jail pending trial, and a production warrant will soon be issued to arrest him in connection with this case. In a related case filed on January 7, 2023, another co-accused A.I.T. officer, Gautam Majethia, residing in Green Field, Majetha Road, Amritsar, has already been arrested by the Vigilance Bureau and is also in judicial custody.
