In an intelligence-led operation against trans-border narcotic smuggling networks, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has arrested one person after recovering 4 Kg ICE drug (Crystal Methamphetamine) and 1 Kg heroin from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Friday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Avtar Singh, a resident of village Kakkar in district Amritsar.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that following reliable inputs that accused Avtar Singh has retrieved a consignment of narcotic drugs from village Bhindi Saidan in Ajnala and intends to deliver this consignment near Hargobind Avenue at Sher Shah Suri Road in Chheharta, Police teams from CI Amritsar led by DSP CI Balbir Singh swiftly conducted the raid at the designated location. Police teams have apprehended the accused person and recovered 4 Kg ICE drug and 1 Kg heroin from his possession, he added.

The DGP said that during the investigation, it was found that the accused Avtar was directly in touch with a Pakistan-based drug smuggler. Probe has also revealed that the Pakistan-based drug smuggler has used drones to deliver this drug consignment from across the border, he added.He said that further investigations are ongoing to establish backward and forward linkages to unveil the entire network.

A case FIR no 26 dated 02.05.2024 has been registered under sections 21, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station SSOC Amritsar. The accused Avtar Singh will be produced before the local court, where the police will seek remand to extract vital information regarding his other accomplices involved in this nefarious drug trade.
