According to officials from the Punjab School Education Department, 2848 schools in Punjab will receive new boundaries during the current fiscal year, while repairs will be undertaken for the broken boundaries of 3595 schools. The construction of new walls for schools across the state will incur an expenditure of 16,645.03 crore, while the repair of existing school boundaries will cost 8,543.229 crore. The Punjab government will spend 25,188.26 crore on the construction of school walls. It is worth mentioning that the state government had allocated a budget of 423 crore for the construction of the basic infrastructure of government schools.

Heavy rainfall during the monsoon season caused significant damage to school buildings in Punjab, similar to other parts of the country. Approximately 800 school buildings in the state suffered damage, with reports indicating that schools in Amritsar, Ropar, and Mohali districts were the most affected. According to statistics, Ropar had 259 affected schools, Mohali had 117, Amritsar had 105, Patiala had 74, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib had 65, Sangrur had 11, Gurdaspur had 33, Fazilka had 19, Hoshiarpur had 17, Faridkot had 15, Jalandhar had 13, SBS Nagar had 12, Mansa had 7, Moga had 6, Bathinda had 4, Pathankot had 3, Kapurthala had 2, Ludhiana had 2, and Tarn Taran and Firozpur had 1 school each suffering damage ranging from the collapse of buildings to walls due to heavy rainfall.”
