CHANDIGARH: The Punjab unit of the BJP demanded a CBI investigation into the illicit liquor tragedy, which has claimed 113 lives so far. The police detained around 200 protesting BJP activists, led by state president Ashwani Sharma who was marching towards the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s residence from Sector-17 here, to submit a memorandum demanding CBI inquiry.

“We are protesting against the government and staging state-level blockades for nearly a fortnight so that the government wakes up from its slumber,” said Ashwani Sharma. “Sadly the state government is responsible for the biggest hooch tragedy. BJP in the all-party meeting had raised the pertinent issue of the liquor mafia, but the chief minister had done nothing,” Sharma added.
