In a significant development in the Pune Porsche crash case, the grandfather of a 17-year-old teen has been arrested, for the “wrongful confinement” of their family driver.

Based on the driver’s complaint, the Yerwada Police has registered a separate case against both teen’s grandfather and father under IPC section 365 (kidnapping with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person) and section 368 (wrongfully concealing or keeping a person in confinement) respectively.

According to Crime Branch’s official, both the teen’s grandfather and father, allegedly confiscated driver’s phone and put him in confinement on their bungalow from May 19 to May 20.

Later, the driver got freed, with the help of his wife.

Meanwhile, as per the officials, the family driver was in the car during that fated night.

Later, the police commissioner stated, that efforts were made to establish the fact, that it was the driver, rather than the teenager, who was behind the wheels, when the vehicle struck two individuals on a motorbike around 3 am on Sunday.

The commissioner further revealed that, earlier, the driver himself claimed he was driving the car at the time.

But during their course of the investigation, it was proven without a reasonable doubt, that it was the juvenile who was driving the car. Citing the evidence of security register entry, which showed that he indeed left with the car.

However, the commissioner also stated that the reasons behind and any pressures leading to this confession will be disclosed at an opportune time.

What Has Happened in the Case So Far?

Now, the case has been transferred to Pune Police crime branch, following the suspension of two police officers of Yerwada over the failure to perform their duties on May 19.

Earlier, the Pune’s local court has remanded the six accused, who were arrested in connection with the case, including the teen’s father (who is in judicial custody).

Coming to the FIR, the offences too have been revised, where earlier section 304A (death by negligence) was applied. Which has been revised to a same section 304, but albeit a more serious one.

It is also revealed, that beside the driver, some other eyewitnesses too were pressured

As for the teenager, he’ll stay in an observation home till June 5.
