The call for renaming Pune Metro’s Bhosari station has reportedly fallen on deaf ears at the Centre, prompting BJP MLA Mahesh Landge to address the issue with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Landge, the MLA from Bhosari, intends to investigate the stalled name change proposal with Maha Metro officials and subsequently discuss the matter with Fadnavis. Despite Maha Metro’s prior proposal to rename Bhosari to Nashik Phata, no government directives have been received. Landge highlights the confusion caused by Bhosari’s popularity as a suburb, emphasizing the need for the state government to pursue the matter with the Centre.
The detailed project report recommended naming the Nashik Phata station as Bhosari, given the latter’s popularity. However, Landge notes that Bhosari is located 5 km away from Nashik Phata, causing confusion for commuters. He expresses confidence that the state government will press the Centre to change the name.
Former Congress corporator Babu Nair finds it surprising that, despite over one-and-a-half years of pursuit by Maha Metro, the central government has failed to respond. Pune City Congress general secretary Ramesh Iyer reveals demands not only to change the name of Nashik Phata station but also Budhwar Peth station and a couple of other stations, with no movement despite commuter demands.
Resident Hrishikesh Marale of Kasarwadi highlights the confusion at Nashik Phata, where there is a railway station named Kasarwadi railway station, a PMPML bus station named Nashik Phata, and a Bhosari Metro station, leading to overall confusion. The lack of coordinated action by officials is evident, creating an urgent need for resolution and clarity.
