The Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Prof. Renu Vig, alongside Prof. Rumina Sethi, Dean of University Instructions (DUI) today, unveiled a Table Calendar that seamlessly integrates environmental and societal insights.
The calendar, designed around the theme of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is a collaborative effort by Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany, and Dr. Gaurav Gaur, Chairperson of the Centre for Social Work.
The Vice-Chancellor remarked, «This innovative calendar represents a harmonious blend of scientific insights and societal perception, demonstrating the interconnected nature of sciences with social dynamics.»
The calendar showcases progressive perspectives from the life sciences, exploring critical aspects of sustainable development and ensuring a holistic understanding of the theme. The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the visual appeal of the calendar, featuring breathtaking photographs captured using a mobile camera by Dr. Gaurav Gaur.
In appreciation, Prof. Rumina Sethi noted, «Dr. Gaur has remarkably applied his photographic proficiency and creative mind to raise awareness about the SDGs, inspiring a collective commitment to a sustainable future.» With an engaging design and a call to action, this calendar encourages individuals to contribute to sustainable practices in their daily lives.
Collaborations of this nature, spanning disciplines, provide a unique and impactful platform to deepen understanding of the SDGs and drive positive change. Prof. Anju Suri, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, was also in attendance during the release.
The dignitaries commended the celebration of the fusion of science and societal consciousness, propelling us towards a more sustainable and equitable world. The calendar is part of the Environment Education Program of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, funded by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh, the state nodal agency.
