With the objective to help the underprivileged and bring a positive change to the environment, students of Enactus Motilal Nehru College, University of Delhi have initiated an effort called Project Prabhakshay. The aim of the project is to create a brighter, cleaner and greener future by taking various measures towards promotion of solar energy. The project focuses on providing smart solar lighting products as a solution that prohibits the use of fossil fuels and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
In a candid conversation, a member of Enactus Motilal Nehru College Dhruv Chhatwal shared some insights about Project Prabhakshay. Excerpts
Q. What is Enactus MLNC?
A. Enactus Motilal Nehru College is a student-run, social entrepreneurship organization, working under the mentorship of Enactus India which is the corporate social responsibility of KPMG Company. Established in 1975, Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings students, business and academic leaders together by channelling the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living of those in need. Enactus MLNC works with the sole objective of bettering lives of the deprived and makes peaceful co-existence possible.
Q. Give some insights about Project Prabhakshay?
A. Prabhakshay was founded in November 2020 by Sunidhi Sharma and launched in February 2021 with a vision of a cleaner world and the need to move to reusable resources.Our project intends to provide solar lighting solutions to reduce the city’s escalating light pollution.We accelerate on the road to sustainability with three powerful domains.Vertical 1: Aims to reduce carbon emissions by merging plastic waste and solar energy and creating products such as solar lamps, solar bike lights, and solar power banks.Vertical 2: Aims to reduce high electricity bills and carbon emissions by curating solar street lights for the general population at a low cost.Marketing and Awareness: Urges the crowd to adopt environmentally safe measures for using energy. Looks after campaigns to make people aware about the small steps taken to prevent environmental degradation.
• Competing in the Enactus World Cup’s Race 4 Climate Action 2021, a worldwide race hosted by Enactus Worldwide. With 170 teams from 36 countries competing, Prabhakshay was one of the top 30 teams in the world.• Competed and grabbed 4th position in ‘AVENTURA’ IIML’s B’plan competition.Additionally Through our online campaigns ‘DETOX YOUR INBOX’ and ‘CLOUD CUE’, we were able to save around 3 tonnes of carbon emissions.• ‘CLOUD CUE,’ our most recent campaign did this through deleting 50k+ emails, 55.6k photos, 2.4k videos and 576 documents.• Consultations on solar lighting were conducted in collaboration with NIFT Delhi.• Won first place in EnactusCollege’s Socio-O-Mania competition. ‘We are ChangeWe are Prabhakshay’
Q. What steps are you planning to take for the betterment of the society and helping the underprivileged?
A. Keeping in mind the betterment of the society we aim to reduce high electricity bills and carbon emissions by implementing solar lighting solutions in the remote areas.Solar energy is nowadays the most reliable and curial form of energy and through our various campaigns we inculcate underprivileged with the effectiveness & efficiency of solar products.Also two of our Campaigns i.e. ‘DETOX YOUR INBOX’ and ‘Cloud Cue’ helped to reduce around 3 tonnes of carbon emission all in a very facile manner!We have conducted webinars, Collaborated with manufacturers & electricians.Currently we are planning to execute these campaigns in offline phase too by conducting workshops in the colleges and schools.We intend to organize cleanliness drives on several locations in NCR region.We through Prabhakshay initiated a change that will bring change in the society to a great extent.
Q. How do you intend to raise funds for your project?
A. We intend to raise funds by inviting investors and presenting our project’s strategy to them. Also, we are showcasing our product in a number of B’ plan contests and startupsIn addition, during the incubation period, we participate in mentorship sessions, which have yielded positive results. Furthermore, any earnings we make from the sale of our products are re-invested in making them more economical and efficient.
