Amid the general election bustle, Congress senior leader Priyanka Gandhi’s Shimla visit has raised eyebrows. The visit comes amid filing of nominations for the first phase of voting, including Uttar Pradesh. There is animated talks of her contesting elections from Rae Bareli, her mother Sonia Gandhi’s constituency.
However, it has not been officially confirmed whether Priyanka will contest the elections or not. UPCCC President Ajay Rai has restrained himself from discussing Priyanka’s candidacy, leave alone Rae Bareli leaders.
Since Sonia Gandhi has been elected to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, there has been talk of Priyanka contesting from Rae Bareli. Considering that the voting in Rae Bareli and Amethi is scheduled for May 20 in the fifth phase, the a decision must be made soon.
Given the current atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka should have targeted Rae Bareli, instead of spending time in Himachal Pradesh.
Reports have suggested that she will keep an eye on the Lok Sabha elections from there. After the resignation of six MLAs in Himachal, the government is in turmoil. The refusal of Pradesh President Pratibha Singh to contest the elections has also caused much concern. Whether Priyanka will save Himachal or stay away from the elections will only be known after the announcement of the candidate for Rae Bareli. But the question is also arising whether Priyanka will stay away from party campaigning. However, she remains active in giving full political statements on Twitter.
