Prince William was “completely crestfallen” after learning about Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis, according to royal author Robert Jobson. On March 22, Kate shared the news of her diagnosis with the world through a heartfelt video. Her diagnosis came shortly after King Charles was also diagnosed with cancer.

Emotional Impact on Prince William

“It was devastating for him,” Jobson told ‘Us Weekly‘. In his newly released book, ‘Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen‘, Jobson reveals that the Prince of Wales felt “a lump in [his] throat” and “the empty feeling in his stomach” when Kate announced her diagnosis.

“It wobbled him,” Jobson said. “There’s no doubt about that.”

Kate’s Public Appearances and Progress

Following her announcement, Kate has mostly stayed away from the public eye. She wrote in a letter three months later that she was “making good progress” but still experienced “good days and bad days” during her treatment. She made her first public appearance after the announcement at the Trooping the Colour ceremony and attended the Wimbledon tennis championships last month.

Supporting Each Other Through Challenges

As Kate battles cancer, William has also been dealing with his ongoing feud with his estranged brother, Prince Harry. Former royal butler Grant Harrold recently suggested that Harry and William are in private talks to resolve their differences. “Of course, a lot has happened, and a lot has to be resolved and sorted out. This may well be on track, but it may not have even been addressed yet,” Harrold said.

A source previously told ‘PEOPLE’ that William “doesn’t let Kate feel isolated” after her cancer diagnosis. The source described the Prince of Wales as a “very reliable, strong person” who is always “right beside” his wife amid her health challenges. “This is about supporting her and her feeling supported. It is a joint effort. She doesn’t feel isolated at all,” the insider said.
