Amid the sharp increase in the Covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, authorities decided to reopen primary classes of schools in entire Kashmir almost after two years of disruptive life. On Sunday, 105 fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported, and 80 of them are from Kashmir.

Earlier this month, J&K administration decided to open the educational institutions and schools, however the move was carried out in a a staggered manner, and to execute the Covid-19 protocols and Standard operating procedures seamlessly, the resumption of Primary schools were further delayed by two weeks.

On Monday, a huge rush of parents and children was seen in the entire Srinagar city and other parts of Kashmir, as the reopening of primary level schools heralded joy on their faces.

As the pandemic looms over, most of the educational institutions have asked the parents to sign the written undertaking that they are sending their wards for classes at their own risk and responsibility.

Many schools in Srinagar city in order to avoid the Covid-19 infection have applied an odd-even formula which entails having only 50% of students on campus on any given day.

Authorities already started the offline classes in all the colleges and universities from first of March 2021.

Education suffered severely in the Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir as all educational institutions remained shut for nearly two years. After the abrogation of the Article 370 and bifurcation of the state into union territories, Kashmir was put under an unprecendented lockdown owing to which the education by large was disrupted. Later, owing to the pandemic and the precautionary measures, the valley went into a second lockdown which further affected the education badly.
