Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Hassan district and meet the victims of the alleged obscene video case during Shah’s ongoing election campaign in the state. Shivakumar said, “I appeal to Amit Shah to visit Hassan and meet the victims. Your party only has given a letter, identify them and please meet them.”
Amit Shah, who is in Karnataka for BJP’s election campaigning, recently met the parents of Neha Hiremath, who was stabbed to death, in Hubbali and criticized the Congress party over the alleged obscene video case during a rally in Haveri. He accused the Congress government in Karnataka of allowing suspended JD-S leader Prajwal Revanna to flee despite knowing about the allegations against him, to conclude voting for Lok Sabha polls in Vokkaliga-dominated areas.
Shivakumar responded by targeting JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy and BJP leaders, urging them to visit the victims if they have any respect for women. He said, “Kumaraswamy and BJP leaders talk a lot about women empowerment. If JD(S) and BJP have any respect for women, they must express solidarity with the victims by paying them a visit.”
Kumaraswamy, on the other hand, accused Shivakumar of being involved in circulating the videos and setting up the SIT to probe the matter. He warned, “Those 420 brothers who are making statements against me… must think before speaking. Both 420 brothers cannot hit me and run away. I know how to react and teach.”
Prajwal Revanna, the accused in the case, has sought more time to appear before the CID. He stated, “As I am not in Bangalore to attend the inquiry, I have communicated to CID, Bangalore, through my advocate. The truth will prevail soon.” Revanna was booked in an alleged sexual harassment case following complaints by his former housekeeper.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Modi, requesting him to cancel the diplomatic passport issued to Prajwal Revanna and ensure his return to face the law.
