As the law and order situation in Karachi worsens, the wife of a Pakistan People’s Party leader was attacked by unknown assailants in the Orangi Town area on Tuesday, according to ARY News. The attack occurred when the vehicle of Dr Samnreen, the spouse of PPP leader Dr Asim, was targeted.

ARY News reported that the PPP leader’s wife was on her way back from an event at a girls’ college in Orangi Town’s No. 11 area when the attack took place. However, she was unharmed. According to police officials, an investigation has been launched into the incident, which they believe was an attempted robbery.

According to Geo News, a report revealed that more than 5,000 crimes were reported in Karachi during June of this year, highlighting the ongoing deterioration of law and order across Pakistan. The alarming statistics were provided by Sindh’s Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), regarding the crime situation in the port city.

Karachi, which is considered as Pakistan’s financial hub, is grappling with a surge in street crimes, as indicated by the troubling statistics in the CPLC report for June. Despite nearly 6,000 criminals being moved to Karachi Central Jail in the first five months of the year, the law and order situation in the city remains dire, as the residents continue to face looting and violence from street criminals.
