Polling held peacefully: Haryana State Election Commissioner


Dhanpat Singh, the, reported that the second phase of the Panchayati Raj Institutions elections went off without a hitch.He said that voting was held for Panchayat Samiti members and Zilla Parishad members in nine districts, namely Ambala, Charkhi Dadri, Gurugram, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa, and Sonipat. The fate of 1244 Panchayat Samiti members and 158 Zilla Parishad members in 57 blocks across nine districts was sealed. Now, after the completion of the polling of all phases of Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state, the results of the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti members will be declared after the counting of votes on November 27, added Dhanpat Singh. He said that for the second phase, the polling for the posts of Panch and Sarpanch in these nine districts will be held on November 12. Their results will be declared on the same day.
The State Election Commissioner congratulated all the employees and officers engaged in election duty on the completion of voting for the second phase of Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad members.
He informed them that a total of 48,673,132 voters had been enrolled in this second phase. 33,44,672 voters exercised their voting rights until 7.30 pm, which is 69.1 percent of the total voters in these nine districts. At some polling stations, even at 7:30 p.m., the voters were seen standing in queues to cast their votes, he added. Dhanpat Singh informed me that polling was held peacefully in all 9 districts; no untoward incident was reported anywhere. Some incidents of malfunctioning EVMs were reported in some areas, but election officials quickly replaced those machines, and voting was completed, according to the State Election Commissioner.
