Mumbai Congress brings out chargesheet against Mahayuti govt

Ahead of the upcoming assembly eleceions in Maharashtra, Mumbai Congress on Saturday launched its chargesheet against ‘Mahayuti Paap Patra’, highlighting the state government’s failures in governing the financial capital of the country.

The Mumbai Congress Committee launched a chargesheet against the Mahayuti government, highlighting its failures in governing Mumbai.

According to the chargesheet released by the Mumbai Congress, it alleged that once celebrated as the ‘City of Dreams’ for its economic prosperity, Mumbai’s living standards have plummeted drastically due to the Yuti’s misgovernance.

“Through this chargesheet, the Congress aims to voice and document the plight of Mumbai’s citizens, underscoring their long-standing concerns that have been disregarded by the Mahayuti,” it said.

The party in its chargesheet highlighted that in July 2022, when Eknath Shinde became Chief Minister, his reign marked the downfall of Mumbai.

It alleged that innocent Mumbaikars are being crushed under the wheels of the Yuti’s leaders’ cars and within seven months, crime rates soared by a staggering 56 per cent.

It also alleged that Mumbai, once known as the safest haven for women, now witnesses three rape and six molestation cases per day.

It further pointed out that Mumbai has been experiencing historic levels of unemployment, while the ruling regime is determined to send major projects and investments to Gujarat. Mumbai, India’s financial capital, has been denied the IFSC, the Diamond Bourse, and countless other projects.

The Congress also said that the Mahayuti’s flashy hoardings claiming good governance ring hollow in the face of two years without elected BMC corporators.

“For the past two years, BMC elections have not been held, denying the citizens their right to representation and efficient administration,” it pointed out.

It also said that without checks and balances, BMC has undertaken Rs 6,000 crore road concretization projects, which have failed to provide pothole-free roads to Mumbaikars.

It also said that the apathetic attitude of the Mahayuti towards the dismal state of local trains received the wrath of the High Court too. “In 2023 alone, 2,590 people died due to the poor state of local trains, amounting to 7 deaths per day. The brutal insensitivity towards the lives of ordinary Mumbaikars was most stark when the Ghatkopar hoarding collapse claimed the lives of 17 people and left 74 injured,” the party said.

Tagreting the state government, the Congress said that since the Mahayuti came into power, basic upkeep of health infrastructure has deteriorated significantly.

“Despite being Asia’s richest Municipal Corporation, BMC-run healthcare facilities rank 19th out of Maharashtra’s 27 Municipal Corporations. BMC hospitals, once reputed for their good quality healthcare, lack basic amenities and life-saving medicines due to poor tendering processes under the Mahayuti’s tenure,” it added.

The party resolved that in the run-up to the assembly elections, the Congress will continue to be a voice for all Mumbaikars and promises to restore the city to its former glory.

It said that various frontals, including Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, and NSUI, will campaign to distribute this chargesheet to every Mumbaikar.

“We will not rest until the Mahayuti government is defeated. This chargesheet is just one of many efforts the Congress will undertake to expose the selfish and criminal Mahayuti regime,” it added.
