Senior advocate Arun Chandra Bhowmik, a former BJP MLA, officially joined the Congress party on Wednesday ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Bhowmik received a warm welcome from Girish Chodankar, the AICC-in-charge of Tripura, during an election rally held in Agartala today.
Prominent figures from the party, such as MLA Sudip Roy Barman, PCC Chief Asish Kumar Saha, and AICC secretary Szaritha Laitphlang, were in attendance.
According to reports, Bhowmik was denied a ticket by the BJP in the previous assembly elections, leading to his disengagement from party activities since then.
The state elections will occur in two phases. The West Tripura seat is set for polling on April 19, while voting for the East Tripura seat will take place on April 26. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.
The election for 543 Lok Sabha seats nationwide will be conducted over seven phases, commencing on April 19 and concluding on June 1. Nearly 97 crore voters are eligible to participate in the general election.
