AAP leader and Member of Parliament Sanjay Singh claimed that Delhi Police detained a party worker, Uday Gill, without justification. He took to social media platform X to share his concerns, stating, “One of our workers, Uday, has been detained at the Mandir Marg police station without any reason. I am present at the police station.”
However, the official handle of DCP New Delhi responded, justifying the detention. According to the police, Uday Gill and an associate were allegedly compelling people to visit a particular political party’s table.
BJP vs AAP Clash at Polling Booth
Singh further accused BJP workers of preventing AAP members from sitting near a polling booth in Tughlaq Lane. “BJP’s hooliganism at Tughlaq Lane booth is not allowing our workers to sit at the table,” he posted.
Responding to these claims, the DCP of New Delhi clarified that the AAP workers had set up an “extra” table, which violated the Election Commission’s guidelines. “There was an extra table and party symbol on table violating the ECI guideline; therefore, the extra table and party symbol were removed,” the police stated.
Sanjay Singh Calls for Action Against Alleged Voter Bribery
Speaking to ANI, Singh alleged that police had yet to explain why Uday Gill was detained, claiming that false cases were being filed against AAP workers. He urged voters to take a stand against this alleged misconduct.
He also accused the BJP of distributing money to sway voters, claiming that ₹2,000-₹3,000 was handed out in North Avenue N Block. Additionally, he alleged that people’s fingers were inked to falsely indicate they had voted, despite not actually casting ballots. Singh stated that when he arrived at the scene, the individuals distributing cash fled in a car with a Haryana registration plate.
“…Former Chaupal Head of Valmiki community, Uday Gill, who enjoys such a good reputation in his community and has been working for them for years, has been kept at the police station since 8:30 am without any reason. Nobody is ready to tell us why. I appeal to the Valmiki community in Delhi—vote against this ‘gundagardi,’ against this tyranny… Answer this with the power of your vote. I have spoken with the Election Observer, DCP, and SHO. But Uday Gill has not been released yet, he is still in the police station. My lawyer will be here… ₹2,000-₹3,000 was distributed in North Avenue N Block today, and people’s fingers were inked. When I reached there, they fled in a vehicle that had a registration plate from Haryana. This is happening right under the nose of EC. Is this a joke?… False cases are being slapped on us,” Singh said.
Saurabh Bharadwaj Alleges Police Interference in Voting
Delhi Minister and AAP’s Greater Kailash candidate Saurabh Bharadwaj also accused the police of obstructing voters at a polling station in Chirag Delhi.
