Political parties in Tamil Nadu are growing impatient even as Governor Banwarilal Purohit continues to “delay his assent” to the legislation for providing horizontal reservation of 7.5% in medical courses to government school students who clear the NEET.
The State government had brought the bill which was passed unanimously in the Assembly. Politicians cutting across party lines have criticized the Governor for what they called “inordinate delay” on his part in giving nod for the legislation.
Expressing displeasure over this, CPI-(M) has demanded the Governor to give his consent immediately or leave the State. The Left party said that the results of the NEET have been already published and only 8 government school students would be able to make it to medical education in the State. DMK president M.K. Stalin has announced that his party workers would stage a protest in front of the Governor House seeking immediate nod for the quota bill.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president and MP Thol. Thirumavalavan has written to President Ramnath Kovind requesting him to recall Governor Banwarilal Purohit from Tamil Nadu.
In his letter to the President, he has stated that the “Indifferent attitude of the Governor has jeopardized the entire admission process. The Governor is not only creating obstacles but also creating a constitutional crisis.”
DMK has called for a protest condemning the Tamil Nadu Governor on Saturday outside the Raj Bhavan for delaying to give his assent to the reservation legislation. The DMK has also expressed displeasure over the AIADMK government “not creating pressure on the Governor for his consent at the earliest.
Rebutting the protest call made by DMK chief Stalin, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has said that MK Stalin is shedding crocodile tears and people will not get swayed by the protest.
Meanwhile, Purohit on Thursday said that he needs 3 to 4 weeks to decide on providing reservation in medical courses for government school students who clear NEET.
