Prime Minister Narendra Modi today warned that a “major political earthquake” is expected within the next six months beginning June 4, the day of the Lok Sabha election results. “Your one vote will help to change the political di rection of the nation. Af ter June 4, in the next six months, a major political earthquake will take place in the country. Political par ties which thrive on dynasty politics will disintegrate on their own. Even their party functionaries have become tired. They all are seeing in which direction the country is moving and the direction in which their parties are heading,” he said, referring to his rival bloc as ‘I.N.D.I Jamaat’. Modi was speaking at an election rally at Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas where he campaigned for the BJP candidates for Diamond Harbour, Mathurapur and Joynagar, which go to the polls on June 1. Modi also accused the Mamata Banerjee-led Tri namool Congress party of changing the demography in bordering areas in West Bengal due to its appease ment politics. Modi also sharpened his attacks on the Trinamool Congress over the OBC quota issue ahead of the last round of voting for the Lok Sabha elections. Modi accused the Trin amool Congress of violating the ideals of the Constitu tion. Modi said: “TMC is open ly violating the ideals of our Constitution. Our Constitu tion provides reservations for the marginalized sec tions of society. TMC over night granted OBC status to the entire Muslim commu nity, thereby transferring the reservations meant for SCs, STs and OBCs to Mus lims.” “The Calcutta High Court has quashed this decision of the Bengal Government. TMC cannot go against the Court orders, yet they are willing to lie to the Muslims for the sake of appease ment,” he added. “The TMC and I.N.D.I.-jamaat are working to taking Bengal down the wrong path.” Speaking in the district which bore the brunt of Cyclone Remal which trig gered the breaching of earthen dams in the region, Modi also attacked the Trin amool Congress for “eating up the funds given by the Central Government to bat tle river erosion. Their only agenda is how to get cut money from every possible avenue. They do not even spare funds sent for rations for the poor, PM AWAS and even for midday meals.”
“Anything that the Centre wants to do for Bengal, the Trinamool Congress ob structs it,” the Prime Minis ter said. “From the Women Helpline Centres to free medical treatment under Ayushman Yojana, TMC does not implement the Central schemes in this re gion. The people of Bengal are paying for the vile inten tions of TMC,” he said. “Lakhs of fishermen in this region are suffering huge losses due to TMC’s stubbornness. The Central Government is running so many schemes for the fisherman brothers and sisters. We provided the facility Kisan Credit Card to fishermen and started the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana, for which a fund of more than Rs 20,000 crore was given. But here also the TMC Government’s atti tude was the same: ‘We will not let this happen’,” the Prime Minister added. The Prime Minister’s words triggered a fierce counter-attack by the Trin amool Congress. Mamata Banerjee contra dicted the Prime Minister’s claim of having sent funds for river erosion. “I swear, the Modi Government has not sent even one rupee to counter river erosion in West Bengal. The Prime Minister is taking every body for a ride keeping an eye on the polls,” she said at an election rally in Baruipur. CPIM leader and Lok Sabha candidate from Dum Dum, Sujan Chakraborty, said: “This does not behove the office of the Prime Min ister that he has to resort to such brazen lies. Congress leader and Lok Sabha candidate from North Kolkata, Pradip Bhattacharya, said: “The Prime Minister is scared now that he knows he is go ing to lose”. Mamata Banerjee con ducted an aerial survey of the areas affected by cy clone Remal in the South 24 Parganas district, officials said. Banerjee conducted the aerial survey while return ing to Kolkata after address ing an election rally in Ba ruipur in the district, they said.
