The recent kidnapping of a 57-year-old dentist by unidentified burqa-clad kidnappers on the outskirts of Hyderabad has created a sensation in Telugu states. Dentist Behjaat Hussain was kidnapped at Bandlaguda on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The Cyberabad police commissioner Sajjanar visited the victim’s family and sought the details and alerted police in both the states. The alleged motive behind the kidnapping was a ransom of Rs. 10 crores, demanded in bitcoins as the doctor was also a real-estate dealer.

According to police, Behjaat Hussain works for a reputed private hospital as a consultant dentist and resides in Bandlaguda Jagir under Rajendranagar police limits of Cyberabad commissionerate. He owns a building in the area where construction activity was going on. On Tuesday afternoon around 1.45 PM, he came to the building to review construction activity. While he was reviewing the works, four men wearing burqa barged in and whisked him away even as his workers looked on. Abductors threatened workers to stay away and dragged Hussain downstairs. Later they bundled him into a car and sped away. Police rushed to the spot and started the investigation.

However, hours after the hunt was launched, a specific alert was issued to Andhra Pradesh Police about the movement of the kidnapper’s vehicle. Following the alert, the Ananthapuram (AP) Police intercepted the kidnappers’ vehicle, saved the victim, and took into custody one kidnapper whereas the three kidnappers managed to escape. In all, nine persons were involved in the planned kidnapping of the doctor. A Bolero vehicle, with a Maharashtra registration number, was used by them. According to the victim, he was kidnapped by five unknown persons who had come in burqas to his hospital. He said he was confined in a room in an undisclosed place in Hyderabad till 5 p.m. All kidnappers spoke the Marathi language, he said.
