PM Narendra Modi has set a new benchmark in reforms and governance for the world to emulate and has very ably steered India to be one of the fastest growing economies of the world – stable and secure – and, as per the IMF, “a bright spot on this otherwise dark horizon”. He has a stellar status amongst the statesmen of the world today and is a true role model. His words that “Today’s era is not an era of war” have been quoted by several world leaders. He has ensured “India First” in every policy formulation. There has been a great leap forward in economic reforms, health care, serving the poor, Nari Shakti, ease of doing business, catapulting a tech driven India, environmental sustainability, infrastructural growth, an overall growth in all sectors and an extremely pro-active buoyant foreign policy which has resurged India’s unity, development and pride of a new Bharat.
With his pro-active “Act East” Policy, PM Modi has reinforced India’s engagement with South-East Asia and the Indo-Pacific region. This has bolstered economic ties and also reinforced strategic partnerships with countries like Australia, Japan, and Vietnam. Secondly, under PM Modi’s leadership, India has redefined and strengthened its “Neighbourhood First” policy, which emphasizes improving ties with neighbouring countries. This approach includes initiatives like the Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) initiative and the South Asian Satellite project. By fostering regional connectivity and cooperation, India aims to enhance its influence in South Asia. Thirdly, economic diplomacy has been a cornerstone of PM Modi’s foreign policy. He has showcased initiatives such as “Make in India” and “Digital India” to attract foreign investments in a big way and boost the domestic manufacturing and technology sectors.
During Covid-19, India proved to be a true friend and saviour and was the pharmacy of the world by supplying medical equipment and pharma products to several countries and vaccines to over 250 countries. This has led to a great deal of good will for India in the global scenario. Fourthly, India has managed to maintain a sincere friendship and judicious posture in its relations with West Asian countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Israel. This equilibrium is crucial due to energy security concerns, the significant Indian diaspora in the Gulf region, and the complex regional geopolitical dynamics.
PM Modi’s diplomatic engagements in the region have safeguarded India’s interests and contributed to regional stability. Fifthly, under PM Modi, India has prioritized counter terrorism cooperation with various countries. India has always been a global voice against terrorism. This is particularly significant in the context of India’s concerns regarding terrorism emanating from Pakistan. The Modi government has successfully been able to prove to the world about the terrorist state and isolate Pakistan diplomatically, calling for international action against state-sponsored terrorism.
India has successfully sent a stern message to Canada to prevent it from fomenting terrorism against India. India has unequivocally supported Israel against the unhumanitarian butchery of the ghastly Hamas attack. Sixthly, from Day 1 of assuming office, PM Modi has ensured a proactive approach in nurturing bilateral relationships with key countries around the world and there have aimed at reducing tensions and promoting economic cooperation. Moreover, PM Modi has taken substantial steps to modernize India’s military and defense capabilities. This includes a gigantic rise in the “Make in India” initiative to boost domestic defense manufacturing.
These efforts have significantly strengthened India’s position as a regional security provider and a partner for defense cooperation with several countries. Chandrayaan and ADITYA-LI have raised India’s image on the global landscape. India’s soft power, including its rich cultural heritage, art, and yoga, has been effectively leveraged as a diplomatic tool under PM Modi. Initiatives like the International Day of Yoga have been successful in promoting Indian culture and healthy living on a global scale. On the environmental front, India is a global leader in climate change and has committed to net zero emissions by 2070.
On the energy front India, in COP 26, has committed to have 500 GW of clean green energy by 2030. The National Green Hydrogen Mission has been launched. PM Modi has initiated the International Solar Scheme in the concept of “One Sun, One Earth, One Grid” and this will solve the energy issues of all nations. Furthermore, PM Modi has shown to the world that India has steadfastly stood by its citizens abroad. India successfully evacuated its citizens in the Vande Bharat Mission – then from Afghanistan, Sudan, Ukraine and now from Israel.
The Modi government has actively engaged in various multilateral forums, such as the United Nations, BRICS, BIMSTEC, G-7, SCO, South Pacific Island Forum, FATF, QUAD and COP 26. India’s leadership in these forums has been instrumental in shaping global agendas on issues like climate change, terrorism, and sustainable development. PM Modi has also advocated for reforms in global institutions, including the United Nations Security Council, to reflect contemporary realities. India has done so much that President Biden has commented “I thank you for your continuing commitment to making sure democracies deliver”. Finally India’s leadership in G-20 was proactive, decisive and inclusive and we achieved a great unwavering consensus of all nations.
This was only due to the sincerity and unflinching resolve of PM Modi, who has been a torch bearer of peace and development in line with the motto of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – “One Earth, One Family, One Future”. World leaders have acclaimed that India’s leadership came at a time where the world was facing several challenges. And all these issues will be certainly resolved by following PM Modi’s principles of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayaas”.
