The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of three new Indian Foreign Service officers to the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday, strengthening the nation’s diplomatic capacity. The committee also extended the contract of the office’s joint secretary.
Dr. Deepak Mittal, an IFS officer from the 1998 batch, has been appointed as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Prime Minister’s Office, according to a notification from the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions. The Ministry also confirmed Dr. Vipin Kumar’s appointment as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, effective immediately, for a term of three years from the date of his hire or until further directives, whichever comes first.
In addition, Nidhi Tewari, IFS (2014), was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Office’s Under Secretary for a three-year term beginning on the day she started working there or until further orders, whichever came first.
Rudra Gaurav Shresth’s tenure as Joint Secretary at the PMO was extended for an additional two months after February 9, 2023, or until three weeks after Dr. Deepak Mittal’s appointment as Officer on Special Duty, whichever came first.
