Prime Minister Narendra Modi, scheduled for a two-day visit to West Bengal, plans to conduct a massive roadshow in Kolkata before the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday, May 28th. Kolkata Police has issued a traffic advisory to ensure smooth traffic flow during PM Modi’s election campaign in the city.

Traffic advisory Issued By Kolkata Police

The traffic police stated, “In view of public safety and convenience during the visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to Kolkata on 28.05.2024 and 29.05.2024, vehicle movement and parking in Kolkata shall be regulated as follows…” according to Vineet Kumar Goyal, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata.

The advisory specifies restrictions on the movement of goods vehicles in certain Kolkata areas from 3 pm to 9 pm on Tuesday and from 8 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday, or until the conclusion of Modi’s visit. Vehicle parking will also be regulated or restricted during these periods.

The traffic restrictions and diversions on May 28th and May 29th include various routes such as 11 Furlong Gate, Khidderpore Road, Red Road, and others. Biddhan Sarani will be closed for all vehicles from 3 pm to 9 pm on Tuesday, and heavy goods vehicles will face restrictions around Raj Bhawan from 6 am on Tuesday to 10 pm on Wednesday. Additionally, the traffic police reserve the right to divert vehicular traffic from arterial and feeder roads as needed.

PM Modi’s itinerary on May 28th in West Bengal includes a public meeting at Ashoknagar in Barasat constituency and another in Jadavpur, followed by paying floral tributes at the Subhas Chandra Bose statue around 5:55 pm. At 6 pm, he is scheduled to lead a 2.5-km-long roadshow in Kolkata.
