Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his intense election campaign and arrived in Kanyakumari today for a two-day meditation at the iconic Vivekananda Rock Memorial. Interestingly, on Thursday, old pictures of PM Modi from the same spot emerged on social media, dating back to December 11, 1991.

These images are from the Ekta Yatra, which commenced from the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and extended all the way to Kashmir. In the viral photos, PM Modi, along with party veteran Dr Murli Manohar Joshi and other participants of the Ekta Yatra, can be seen paying homage at the statue of Swami Vivekananda.

The Ekta Yatra, also known as the Unity March, was launched in December 1991 from Kanyakumari and concluded on January 26, 1992, with the hoisting of the national flag in Srinagar. Led by veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, PM Modi, then a BJP worker, played a pivotal role in organizing the march.

The goal of the Ekta Yatra was to showcase India’s unity and resolve against terrorism. Passing through 14 states, the journey resonated deeply with the people, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to unity.

PM Modi’s current visit to Kanyakumari includes a 48-hour meditation at the Dhyan Mandapam, where Swami Vivekananda meditated in 1892. The Rock Memorial stands as a tribute to the Hindu philosopher-saint, symbolizing India’s aspirations for development.

Legend has it that Swami Vivekananda meditated at this spot for three days, receiving a vision for a prosperous India. This spiritual journey mirrors PM Modi’s previous post-election retreat in 2019 when he visited Uttarakhand and meditated inside a cave near the Kedarnath shrine, drawing global attention.
