Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the nationwide celebration of the “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav” from 12 March at the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani held the first meeting of the state level committee in Gandhinagar to mark the historic occasion of the commencement of this celebration from Gujarat.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister made it clear that Gujarat, which has played an important role in the freedom struggle, is also determined to celebrate the “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav” with dignity.

In this context, he said that the memory of the Dandi yatra organised by the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi from Sabarmati Ashram on March 12, 1930, at present, evokes the memory of 81 pedestrians from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi, the 386 km long Dandi yatra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the celebrations of the Dandi yatra.

He said that on the occasion of the commencement of this celebration, various programs full of patriotism and public awareness will be organized at 75 places all over the country and also in Gujarat.

Accordingly, among the places associated with Mahatma Gandhi and freedom struggle in Gujarat, big programs will be organized in Bardoli, Dandi, Porbandar, Rajkot, Vadodara and Mandvi and other programs will be organized in other places including district headquarters.

The programme of Sabarmati Ashram, which will be held in the presence of the Prime Minister at all these places, will also be broadcast virtually, the Chief Minister said.
