Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday,  made an appeal to people, particularly tourists, to spend money on buying locally created goods during his visit to Uttarakhand on Friday as part of the Vocal for Local programme.

“I appeal to all tourists in the country to spend at least 5 per cent of their travel budget on buying local products,” Prime Minister Modi said at a public event held at Badrinath’s Mana, the last village bordering China.

Additionally, he had already made numerous appeals to his fellow Indians to support the local economy by buying indigenous goods.

The prime minister stated that every hamlet found in border regions will now be regarded as the first village of India when referring to communities located close to international boundaries and remote places.

At the event, Prime Minister Modi laid the cornerstone for road-widening projects estimated to cost Rs 1000 crore.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two road widening projects from Mana to Mana Pass (NH07) and from Joshimath to Malari (NH107B), according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), will be another step in providing last-mile all-weather road connectivity to our border districts. In addition to improving connectivity, these projects will be advantageous from a strategic standpoint.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi examined the development of the riverfront in Badrinath.

The prime minister prayed at Badrinath and Kedarnath earlier in the day.

He laid the cornerstone in Kedarnath for the construction of a 9.7 km long ropeway that would connect Gaurikund and Kedarnath, cutting the distance’s current travel time from 6-7 hours to just 30 minutes.

The anticipated price of the ropeway is Rs. 2,430 crore.
