Following the passing of veteran Congress leader D Srinivas Garu on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences, highlighting that the former MP would be remembered for his extensive years of service to the public.

Taking to their official X handle, the PMO India quoted Narendra Modi and posted, “Saddened by the passing away of former MP D. Srinivas Garu. He will be remembered for his long years in public service and efforts to empower the poor.”

The post added further, “My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of grief.”

Srinivas, a three-time MLA from Nizamabad (rural), served as president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee twice. He led the party to victory in the 2004 and 2009 elections in undivided Andhra Pradesh. Following the state’s division into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Srinivas resigned from the Congress party and joined the BRS in July 2015.

Srinivas had been battling illness for some time and passed away due to a heart attack at 3 am on Saturday in Hyderabad. He was 76 years old. During his tenure, Srinivas also held positions as a Minister, Member of Parliament, and President of the Pradesh Congress Committee in the former Andhra Pradesh. He is survived by his two sons; Dharmapuri Arvind, his younger son, currently serves as the MP of Nizamabad, while his elder son Sanjay previously held the position of Mayor of Nizamabad.

Meanwhile, former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu paid tribute to Dharmapuri Srinivas on Saturday.

ANI quoted Naidu, “A senior politician, former Congress president, former minister who held important portfolios and above all, a gentle, humble human being who was always available to the people, used to spend time with the people… I convey my condolences to the family members.”

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, Telangana ministers, and senior Congress party leaders offered condolences on his passing.

Additionally, Telangana Minister of Roads and Buildings and Cinematography Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Congress Senior Leader V Hanumanth Rao, and Rajya Sabha MP Keshava Rao paid their respects to him.
