Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the new Parliament building, which is located in the heart of Delhi’s Lutyens district, soon. It was built as a part of the Central Vista Redevelopment Project.
According to people familiar with the situation, the new Parliament building will be inaugurated at the end of the month, around the time the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will have completed nine years in power.
Prime Minister Modi paid a surprise visit to the building more than a month ago. Modi spent over an hour at the upcoming complex inspecting various works with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
According to sources, the prime minister observed the construction of faculties at both Houses of Parliament and interacted with construction workers and officials.
In 2020, the Prime Minister laid the groundwork for the new Parliament building. In September 2021, he visited the new complex’s construction site and interacted with the workers.
Earlier when PM laid the foundation stone, he said, “The need was felt for a new Parliament building for years. 21st century India needs a new Parliament complex. The old building fulfilled the needs of the country, the new Parliament building will fulfil the country’s aspirations.”

The new Parliament building complex is 64,500 square meters in size and is part of the 20,000 crore Central Vista project. The estimated cost of the Parliament building project is Rs.971 crore. The structure will be earthquake resistant, and it will employ 2,000 people directly and 9,000 indirectly. The new parliament building will have a capacity of approximately 1,200 MPs.
