Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded India’s para-athletes for their remarkable performance in the World Para Athletics Championships, celebrating their significant rise in rankings. India secured the sixth position in the recently concluded Kobe World Para Athletics Championships 2024, clinching a total of 17 medals, including six golds, five silvers, and six bronzes. This achievement marked a substantial improvement from their 19th position in the previous edition.

Expressing his delight, PM Modi highlighted the exceptional journey of Indian para-athletes, who ascended from the 34th rank to the sixth within a span of seven years. He commended their dedication and perseverance, emphasizing how their outstanding performance showcased the world the power of determination and hard work. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the para-athletes for their stellar display, recognizing their resilience and determination to overcome challenges.

Among the gold medallists for India were Sachin Khilari (men’s shot put F46), Simran Sharma (women’s 200m T12), Deepthi Jeevanji (women’s 400m T20), Sumit Antil (men’s javelin F64), Thangavelu Mariyappan (men’s high jump T63), and Ekta Bhyan (women’s club throw F51). China claimed the top spot with 87 medals, followed by Brazil and Uzbekistan in the second and third positions, respectively, showcasing the competitive spirit of the championship.
