Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended greetings to “all the hardworking teachers who spread the joys of education among young minds”.
Narendra Modi also remembered and paid tribute to former President Dr Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “Greetings on Teachers’ Day, especially to all the hardworking teachers who spread the joys of education among young minds. I also pay homage to our former President, Dr. Radhakrishnan, on his birth anniversary.”
The prime minister emphasised the significance of teachers in a video greeting, saying that while a mother gives birth, a teacher gives life.
“The teacher holds the same place in life as a mother. We have also seen such teachers who are more concerned about their loved ones than themselves. They spend their lives with their students. The mother gives birth, but the teacher gives life. The contribution of teachers is always felt in the lives of all of us. In every person’s life, there will be something said by them in their childhood that becomes a part of their life. The teacher never retires. If we have good teachers, good scientists, good doctors, then there are some teachers behind them,” said PM Modi.
He added that it is everyone’s responsibility to respect teachers.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to former president Radhakrishnan, whose birthday is commemorated as Teachers’ Day, saying, Despite holding several posts, Radhakrishnan always considered himself to be a teacher. He always used to say that a good teacher is the one whose inner student never dies.”
PM Narendra Modi will meet with the recipients of the “National Awards to Teachers 2022” later in the evening. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) states that the National Awards to Teachers were established to recognise and honour the distinctive contributions of some of the best educators in the nation who, through their dedication and diligence, have not only enhanced the quality of education at the schools but also the lives of their students.
Every year on September 5, the Ministry of Education hosts a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan to present accolades to the nation’s top educators who were chosen via a strict, open, and online three-stage selection procedure.
In honour of former President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, an author and philosopher who served as India’s second president and was born on September 5, 1888, Teachers’ Day is observed nationwide. He has made an excellent contribution to the field of education.
To honour the late president and all of the nation’s teachers, Teachers’ Day celebrations were first held in 1962.
